Why do we still need table lamps?

Although we’ve moved on considerably from Victorian days funnily enough one piece of furniture that’s survived through since those days is the table lamp.

You’d think that by now we’d have progressed to the point where we’d dimmer switches beside the bed and therefore we’d not need table lamps any more but in many ways it’s an item that’s branched out somewhat over time. No longer is a table lamp a standard item in one design and one colour: go to even the smallest of home decoration shops these days and you’ll come across a substantial selection in all kinds of styles, colours and even with variations in the type of lighting that they provide.

So whilst we don’t really need them any more, we use them as fashion accessories.
