Going ultra-modern in the bathroom

Our bathroom is, to put it mildly, ancient and in dire need of an update.

One of the things that we’ve been considering is to lurch to the opposite extreme and replace everything with an ultra-modern equivalent. Funnily enough for a house previously owned by an electrician, the oldest parts are the electrical fittings, notably the bathroom lights are 1960s vintage. Well, I say “notably” as in practice the lights were of the style that in the 1960s was felt to be super modern and they don’t look as out of date as you might have thought when I told you their age.

Now the question is: will going ultra-modern with everything mean that the look won’t date that quickly over the years?
