What’s the next game console to consider?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Our little guys seem to be nearing the end of the road with their PSPs so we’ve started thinking about what they might like after that.

The obvious choice would be the ps3 which would even extend the functionality of their existing PSPs. I think it’s even possible to sort-of swap games between the two systems and certainly multiuser gaming is possible between the two systems.

Sadly, it’s not so simple as that though. Whilst the PS3 is probably the most logical choice for compatibility, there’s also the marketing muscle of the Wii and the Xbox to consider. Plus, Wendy’s quite taken with the Wii.

One thing’s for sure: moving from a portable console to one that needs a TV is gonna mean we need another TV.

Just what can you get as an original game for Christmas?

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

Although there are loads of games and toys in the shops it’s actually quite difficult to find something that’s truly original.

Oddly enough, to go down the original route it’s often better to look at older types of games. Whilst they’re not “original”, something like a real ping pong table is much more likely to be new to the recipient than whatever the latest craze or computer game will be.

These kinds of games tend to be that little bit more difficult to track down but the effort in doing so will be well rewarded.

Updating the living room

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

The battered old settee in our living room is in a very sorry state these days and in serious need of a trip to the dump.

Quite why we ended up with it getting so bad is a long story of small rooms and large modern sofas which don’t mix too well. It wouldn’t have been so bad if we’d bought it 20 years ago but these days all the new sofas seem to be built on a grand scale which just doesn’t fit too well in our house.

Or, rather, it doesn’t fit in a like for like replacement. What we can do is look at different configurations of furniture though and that’s what, at long last, we are getting around to doing.
