The profile of arthritis rises

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Not so long ago, rheumatoid arthritis was a disease that was basically for “old people” which is to say somebody other than “us” so it didn’t matter a whole lot.

However, with the age profile changing and the significance of the older section of the community correspondingly increasing that’s a situation that is set to change rapidly. At the leading age of this is “New Way RA” which is a new talk show based around rheumatoid arthritis.

One can only hope that this isn’t a sign of a whole bunch of programmes about stuff which frankly the majority of people would rather not think about ’til it happens. I’d like to be able to say that nobody is thinking of a soap opera based in a nursing home but I guess that can’t be too long off.

More specialist insurers

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Although there have been closures and mergers of insurance companies all over the place during the last couple of years, that hasn’t stopped some of the specialist insurance companies.

Slightly complicated is that the specialists tend to use all kinds of original (read un-necessarily complex) names like extended service plan and whatnot. That said, they can often offer excellent value in their niche of the insurance market when generalist companies are often offering totally over the top prices along with all kinds of peculiar obstacles for what are, to them, non-standard policies.

Why are there so many different “top rated” diet pills?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Where-ever you look on the Internet you’ll come across lists of top rated diet pills yet few of these lists bear any relation to others. What gives?

There’s a whole lot of reasons behind the differences. First off is sheer familiarity with the products which is, to some extent, a function of the rapid changes that have been taking place in this market over recent years. There’s no way that everyone can know about all of the products available when you’ve got everyone from the major cosmetic manufacturers through to supermarket own-label producers.

Second, there’s a whole heap of different means of operating for the pills and potions. Even at a simplistic level you’ve fat burners, fat absorbers and diet suppressants. Beyond that, you’ve the complications of all-purpose pills which combine a whole bunch of different ingredients designed to target pretty much every way of losing weight that you could possibly imagine. Ranking such combo pills is far from easy.

Finally, there’s the matter of commission as many of the top lists also let you buy the pills. As we all know, commission can have something of an impact on what’s being sold.
