Which online university?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

One of the problems in choosing an online university these days isn’t that the number of them is small but because the choice has grown enormously in recent years.

The big plus point in that is that instead of a small number of so-so universities there are some of the major players (still overly expensive) and a serious number of sensible universities like Western Governors. Although not widely known, that’s a situation that seems sure to change with their move into national promotion of their online accredited programmes. That little word “accredited” is quite significant too as many of the early online universities didn’t have that status which in practical terms made qualifications from them largely worthless.

Changed too is the presentation: these days WGU offers a professional looking website. That shouldn’t need saying but sadly that professional look just ain’t there in a number of the early online offerings. They’re much more complete too with an online MBA offering. The significance of the online MBA is that an awful lot of people who should have an MBA just don’t have the option of taking time out of their life to go on an MBA programme; something that many online universities either forget or just aren’t up to providing.

What’s the next game console to consider?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Our little guys seem to be nearing the end of the road with their PSPs so we’ve started thinking about what they might like after that.

The obvious choice would be the ps3 which would even extend the functionality of their existing PSPs. I think it’s even possible to sort-of swap games between the two systems and certainly multiuser gaming is possible between the two systems.

Sadly, it’s not so simple as that though. Whilst the PS3 is probably the most logical choice for compatibility, there’s also the marketing muscle of the Wii and the Xbox to consider. Plus, Wendy’s quite taken with the Wii.

One thing’s for sure: moving from a portable console to one that needs a TV is gonna mean we need another TV.

Just how long have we to wait ’til the kitchen is finished?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Actually, we seem to be finally seem to be on the home run with the kitchen.

Not only do we have a solid roof on the extension but the plasterer is set to come tomorrow morning to sort out the new ceiling. The new oven is even sitting on the floor though it may be a while before that actually gets installed going by the discussions with the builders on Friday.

Still, that near completion means that it’s time to start serious thinking about the new bathroom. Things like Grohe faucets, corner baths, even corner cisterns. Featuring large in this is the “wet room” concept which seems to make cleaning a whole bunch simpler.
