Eating MORE to lose weight???

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Yes, it sounds daft but that’s sometimes what you need to do.

The problem is that once you get to a certain point in an exercise programme aimed at losing weight, your body reacts against your best efforts and starts to conserve more of what you eat as it figures you’re in a famine situation. That’s when you need to think about weight loss supplements to get the weight loss back on track.

As always when you start look at dieting type products it’s far from simple. Thus you can get things to supplement any vitamins that you’re losing out on through your diet programme or you can get other things to bulk up your muscle and loads of other choices besides.

Supplemental insurance

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Most people recognise that there are significant gaps in normal medical insurance cover and so there’s quite a market in Medicare supplement insurance.

The supplemental insurance market is all about filling those gaps and extending your cover in areas where you’ve not got quite enough for your needs and can’t add more within your normal insurance contract. For example, if your employer offers cover it will tend to be quite limited in some areas. Obviously you don’t want to go out and pay for a full insurance policy in these cases as some or possibly most of your needs are covered already.

What makes this market a lot more complex is that the gaps and cover limits aren’t standard so you generally need a broker who can go through your existing policies to identify where they don’t cover you well enough. Doing it yourself is, of course, possible but insurance contracts are notorious for their complexity so it’s not a task to be undertaken lightly and besides the broker will almost certainly save you a considerable chunk of cash.

Have you got all your vacation equipment?

Friday, July 10th, 2009

These days there seems to be an inordinate amount of stuff that we all cart about with us on vacation but have you thought about whether you have what you need and whether it’ll actually work?

For example, if you’re dependent on your mobile phone, have you checked that it’ll actually work in the countries that you’re going to? At the moment, the only phones that can be relied on to work pretty much worldwide are those that are quad band but the vast majority of phones are only dual band thus an American phone normally won’t work in Europe and vice versa plus neither will work in Japan. Even if it does work, it’s worth checking out what the call costs are as, usually, they are a LOT more than domestic calls plus there’s the charge per minute that you have for receiving calls overseas.

If you’re driving it’s handy to fit wind deflectors to cut down on the wind noise from open windows not to mention the bugs that fly in. In general, if you’re driving your own car you should have it checked out well in advance to avoid needing repairs whilst you’re off on vacation.

Taking your computer along? If you can downsize the little Acer Aspire One that I’m writing this on is just perfect for holiday trips. Just A5 in size and generally around half the price of the cheapest normal sized laptop. Get the big battery and you’re looking at over six hours between charges (though it does pretty much double the weight). OK, it’s not going to be as fast as your normal laptop but then you’re on vacation so you’ve time to spare.

Don’t forget adaptors and transformers too! Many electronic products operate on 230V and 110V but it’s best to check that in advance. On the whole Europe operates on 230V whilst America (north, south and central) operates on 110V but outside those regions the voltage can seem like potluck at times.
