Should you look online for information about a course you’re doing?

Friday, March 6th, 2009

We all do, of course, but what if there’s just too much information?

One of the most significant differences I found when I started my current psychology course compared to the language courses that I’d been doing previously was that the much larger number of students involved meant that there was a correspondingly large increase in the information available online. So much in fact that selecting amongst it is almost at the point where it’s a significant problem.

In addition to the information put out by the university, there are notes from several different tutorial groups that were run in previous years, booklets summarizing the content of the course texts, study weekends, several blogs, student notes on the texts and even one set of answers for the assignments. That last is much less useful than you might think but is definitely very helpful to get a feel for what might be expected from the examiners.

I suspect that there are some people who are sinking in the sea of information out there. Even within our own group there are some people who are flipping between the two options in the first assignment thanks to the different ways that the requirements were put across in the two tutorials that have been run to date.

To my mind this is definitely a case of way too much information. It’s all useful to be sure and I’ve gone to tutorials run by two different tutors myself. Cost will dictate that most people will realistically only consider one of the four revision weekends that I’ve came across but the initial blogs on this course will only grow in numbers over the years adding to the confusion of future students I suspect.

Choosing a luxury hotel room

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

I stress hotel room because not all rooms in luxury hotels would necessarily be classed as luxurious.

Oh, you’ll usually find rooms that would have been considered luxury hotel rooms in yesteryear but quite often they’re missing what many would consider as being key items of technology these days. So in practical terms what would otherwise have been considered luxurious are what a lot of people would consider as being quite basic in functionality.

To slightly confuse the issue in recent years some chains have gone down the route of providing rooms that are quite luxurious and well equipped but which don’t provide nearly so much over the top service in the rest of the hotel as is traditional in the realm of luxury hotel.

So if you have specific requirements of your luxury hotel, particularly in the technology line, do check out ahead of time that they’ll be met.

Just where do you look for a weight loss product?

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

These days the sheer range of what you could list as a weight loss product is staggering.

For one thing the machines that were formerlly only seen within gyms are now available to purchase. More even as you select among the full range available which you’ll not see in any single gym.

Even the range of gyms has widened with various health club chains offering a much greater range of options than were ever available in traditional gyms of old.

Finally, there’s the large and growing diet pill industry. This has become so complex that there’s a complementary growth in advice as to just what type of diet pill you should be considering.

In reality what many people do is to select amongst one of these options yet the best solution is probably a cocktail selected from each range. For instance, starting out you could select an appropriate diet pill to kick start your weight loss programme. Next you can move up to a self-directed exercise programme at a local gym as they’re usually fairly cheap. Finally, you can move on to a health club where you’ll find various exercise classes to keep you motivated (it’s best not to hit these first as it can be seriously demotivating to be shown up as a non-fit person).
