A silent health warning

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Here’s something to think about next time you get a shooting pain in one side of your face – one that does not go away with the usual painkillers.

My aunt has been receiving treatment for fibromyalgia in the left side of her face for a year now until a couple of days ago when the pain resulted in a heart attack whilst she was out shopping. What she thought was one thing turned out to be an oncoming heart attack…and it has been bothering her for two years!

Thankfully she is fine now – but with any pain that affects one side of the body it is always best to get things properly investigated. A second, or even third, opinion from a doctor never hurt anyone.

Now the TV is disappearing into the furniture

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Not so long ago the TV was just a lump of technology that sat in the corner of the room and it wasn’t in any way expected to fit in with the other decor in your room. In recent years that shift has become so extreme that it was pushed as a benefit that it didn’t fit in and that the rest of the room had to be adjusted to fit in with it in terms of surround sound speakers and even special movie style furniture to make the most of the home movie set ups.

However, that’s changing as the furniture people adjust to the changing profile of flatscreen TVs and so now we find the pop up tv which sits right into your furniture when it’s not being used, popping up just when you want to watch it. This stuff is still very much at the top end of the scale coming in around $2000 but that’ll change over time and will transform many a living room.

Engagements

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Engagements are peculiar in many ways. In effect they have two basic reasons, the first being to signal that the couple in question are no longer available to anyone else and secondly to signify the committment between them.

Although that second reason is perhaps the most important in terms of cermonial value, the first is no less important and for that engagement rings are the usual means of erecting the “unavailable” sign. In fact, by removing the potential for competition, it’s probably rather important for some relationships. Not so much because the girls can’t be trusted to stay committed but rather because guys in general consider the hunting season to always be open.
