A magical device to move things without effort

Several thousand years ago if you had heard of something which could be used to move large objects without effort, you would have considered that it must be a thing of witchcraft. In fact, the Mayans didn’t use the wheel for carts and whatnot until after the Spanish arrived (not that they didn’t know of it, just that it wasn’t practical for them given the terrain).

Yet, the wheel is now so ingrained in our daily lives that few people would even consider it as technology.

A time of magic and legend

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

Just three hundred years ago if you were able to lift a wand, point it at a piece of glass and watch someone on the other side of the world through that piece of glass, you’d have been burnt at the stake, yet today we take television for granted.

Just thirty years ago, if you’d walked along the street animatedly talking to an imaginary friend, you’d have been locked up, yet today hands-free mobile phones are commonplace.

This blog will attempt to bring back that sense of wonder in the things that surround us every day but which not so long ago were considered magic or at best science fiction.
