Sex: the very first invention

Monday, May 21st, 2007

Whilst there are oodles of sex toys around these days the very first invention wasn’t a toy itself, but sex itself.

It wasn’t always around but the very first animals to use sex to reproduce came into existence billions of years ago. Once they did, they left all the previous animals in the dust so to speak. With sex came the opportunity for change: two different sets of genes came together and mixed to produce an animal that was different from either of its parents.

That change was fundamental in the development of life. Without it, change would still have happened as there are always “mistakes” in asexual reproduction but they’re generally a “now and again” deal and therefore it would have taken much, much longer for intelligent life to evolve.

The current speculation as to when a human clone will be produced (or has one been born already?) is interesting as it’s a giant step back in evolution, or at least it would be if ever it became cheap enough to be available to everyone.

A wonderful device to let you walk across water

Millau BridgeThere were many natural bridges created by fallen trees and whatnot but nobody knows when the first person got around to replicating that delibrately and built their very own bridge.

Whether it was across a river or just a crevace a little too wide to jump over, nobody knows either. Whatever that first man-made bridge crossed, the invention has come a long way since then with this particular bridge shaving up to three hours off the journey across the valley that it spans.

The Alexa Link Train

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

This little site isn’t all that old and already we’ve been invited on a train!

As suggested by Foreign Perspectives I’m adding a few blogs outside the normal train passenger list. ~Start Copying Here~Alexa Redirect Train by Carl Ocab

Rules:

  • Put anything you like above this list – Chit Chat, talkies, introduce what this is.
  • Start copying on the “~Start Copying Here~” and copy all the things listed without removing the links (Of course, the train would be no use without those links)
  • Move all the sites labeled “Newcomers” to the list labeled “Oldies”.
  • Add 5 sites that you want to include in the train and make their “Visit My Site” link like this: http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?www.anitokid.blogspot.com then invite them to join the train.
  • Visit all the listed sites using the Visit My Site link. (That’s not much work! Remember, if you plant good seeds they will also grow good) and look at your high Alexa ranking next week!
